If digital parenting, raising our families, and/or running a business in today’s economy isn’t enough to keep us all busy, now more than ever you have to vigilant protecting the undermining of our Constitutional rights under the guise of “Cybersecurity”. CISPA (Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act of 2011) the sister of SOPA and PIPA is quietly trying to gain access throught he back door. It’s tough being a digital parent and it’s feeling just as tough to hang on to our Constitutional rights that our parents before us bought with their lives.

SOPA was recently turned away, even witht he support of Industry giants. Not so anymore, SOPA and PIPA’s sister, CISPA has captured the support of the same Industry giants that we thought had our interest, and who are now publically making their support known.

Just the night before this live show on #CHWR, I was FREAKING Out! LOL my youngest daughter come home from school with more homework than both her older sister and brother combined, it took almost 2 hours… not that I would not spend the time with her, but at 7 years old and she has 2 hour drive time, so that is a overall total of 2+8+2=12 hours for a Monday She really a little trooper, and does this everyday, so for dad he did and will continue to buck-up and not FREAK Out!!

THESE CHILDREN ACTED FAST!

The boy said he was walking to the school bus stop when a man walking his dog approached him, “I was walking, and he told me to go with him and I ignored him and just kept going.” Ignoring the man did not make the man go away.

“He told me, ‘Come with me or I am going to kill you,’ and I got scared.” The boy thought the man pulled out a knife, so the boy ran home and told his mother.

Not to be deterred the potential kidnapper turned his attention to a girl who had been walking to the bus stop. He started chasing the girl, who was also able to get home to her mom.

We are grateful these fast acting children from Belen, New Mexico were able to run away from their potential kidnapper and tell their moms what had happened. The children are now safe, even though local law enforcement has not been able to locate a suspect.

Less than a month ago we were approached by the WSJ (Wall Street Journal), via YourSphere’s media dept. and were asked by one of their Senior Writer’s if LilyAnn would be interested in being interviewed about teen dating.

As a family we talked about the opportunity for LilyAnn and decided she could do it and so it happened. What an exciting time for her she did such a wonderful job. The WSJ staff writer was really impressed with her and her values. In the end that is not what the the editors wanted, they wanted a story of 11-14 kids dating and LilyAnn has made the choice to wait until she 16 before she starts dating.

Dear Anissa and LilyAnn,

I just want to thank you again for all your help with my story on tween dating.

I really enjoyed our conversations. LilyAnn is such an intelligent, thoughtful person, and I hope she continues to turn out good writing. Anissa, your thoughts on parenting were excellent. I very much appreciated the opportunity to speak with both of you.

My editors have cut back the space available for the story, and I’m sorry to report that the information you provided was taken out of the final draft. I had included some quotes from each of you, but they are focusing mainly on kids who are dating now.

I’m keeping my notes for possible follow-up stories, however. And again, I just want to say thanks, and pass on my warm best wishes to you both. I’m sure LilyAnn has a bright future!

Awareness… if we are to devote entire months to it, we must first
ask, what does it mean?

I was going through some notes this past weekend and I came across a very special message dated last summer from one of our very special radio guests, Mary Kay Hoal.

In this FaceBook message I had a nice little surprise (see below) that brightened my day… but of course there is more to the story and the relationship we have been able to cultivate with Mary Kay over the past few years.

It has been really exciting watching the growth and level of experience that Mary Kay has developed and pursued on behalf of children everywhere!!

Recently Mary Kay has been featured in multiple media arenas and has some National Exposure as well that will make changes for all parents and advocates like Dave and Bill and the many others who have joined us on CHWR

I don’t think she will mind if I share this with you all, because we are on the same team, fighting for the same cause… and that is Keeping Our Children Safe!

Mary Kay’s message…

Hi Bill,

First of all, thanks for liking the story we shared about the incident with one of our members. The larger we’re growing, the more mistakes we’re seeing kids making in the site. I just wanted to say hi and thank you, and give you an update on what’s been going on in the site.

I know you won’t be surprised, Bill, that we have people purposefully lying and ignoring our terms of service. For example, we’ve had two adults join and try to friend kids in the site. Thankfully our technology and human oversight caught it, but it just underscores what you and I know already: that parents need to be involved and talking to their kids about online safety.

I see all of your advocacy for Yoursphere and what we’re doing, so I just wanted to say thank you so much for your continued support. This is a tough job that we have, changing things for kids and doing what’s right by kids.
