The CHWR team welcomes to the show Sedgrid Lewis, Cyberbully App… Bully Block Top 6 Smartphone Security App for Children…

The controversy over smartphones for children continues to escalate. Some argue that it may be actually educational for the children, while others maintain that it’s simply a useless distraction. However, children are gaining more and more exposure to smartphone technology.

PLEASE listen to this awesome interview:

A survey conducted by the Joan Ganz Cooney Center and detailed in The Wall Street Journal reports that most parents “allowed their kids to use a smartphone at least occasionally.” Moreover, “About two-thirds of the children said they have used an iPhone before, and almost two thirds said it was “easy” or “very easy” to use.”

In a study done in February 2010 by the Cyberbullying Research Center, over 4000 students were randomly surveyed ages 10-18 from 37 different schools.

Many stats from this study stood out to me (you can read the entire article by True Care Awareness Online here), but the most significant one in my opinion is the fact that 20% of the students have been cyber-bullied in their lifetimes. Astoundingly, 17% of them have been cyber-bullied within the last 30 days!

As a high school counselor at my day job I have seen firsthand the prevalence and impact cell phones have in schools. Rumors, threats, harassment, and teasing are all very common in the school setting via cell phone; students no longer have to physically be present to harass someone.

Thanks to Sedgrid for his time today and his awesome product, plus the great service that his company provides!!! Make the investment only $1.99 for the download, to protect you kids daily, that is a half cup of Starbucks coffee…

On June 23, Proofpoint and Osterman Research will announce results from a 632-respondent survey demonstrating that enterprises and government agencies are finally taking steps to deal with the onslaught of consumerized IT in the workplace — consumerized IT that includes mobile devices such as the iPad and iPhone, social platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, and IM applications from Yahoo!, MSN and AOL.

The findings:

• Contrary to some recently published reports and opinions, the survey revealed that the 84 percent of organizations allowing employees to use consumerized IT such as iPads, iPhones, Facebook, Twitter and IM to conduct business communications are mitigate associated risks by turning away from a trust-only approach and implementing three-layer security and compliance strategies that include a combination of trust, policy and technology. Fifty-one percent of those polled stated that they relied on a combination of all three layers, 22 percent did not use technology but did rely on employees to adhere to policies, and only 12 percent relied solely on employees’ “good judgment” for defense. The survey showed that the segment of respondents taking a three-layer approach is placing heavy reliance on endpoint protection technologies that include agents and applications used to enforce policies.

Pocket Porn - It Was Only A Matter Of Time...

Did You Say Pocket Porn?

There is that ah-ha sound, which Homer Simpson blurts out at that critical moment when Homer realizes his blunder. Well, I thought I just heard that same sound coming from Apple, with the advent of FaceTime services.

Unfortunately, what was designed to advance the social networks and mobile interaction has only furthered the advancement of the porn industry. Seems a bit ironic with all the efforts Apple has taken to assure the safety of its phone by scrutinizing its apps. FaceTime is not even an outside developer’s app. It is a main feature of the phone.

Homer! What Are You Doing?

Let’s not start pointing fingers; Apple has gone to great lengths to circumvent pornography access to the iPhone. “Apple can’t be seen as responsible any more than makers of routers or hardware are responsible for the content you are looking at,” said Jonathan Zittrain, a co-founder of the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University.

It is inevitable that our children are at risk of becoming victims of technology; along with the good comes the bad. Some of the greatest security afforded our children are their parents. An informed parent, who empowers their child on a regular basis, also helps secure his or her child future when it comes time to making better-informed decisions.

An ugly truth is porn providers have always been early adopters, and a great deal of our technology has been advanced through the adult industry. Look back at some of the events, 1970s VCRs, DVDs, Internet streaming videos, all early adapters, which spurred the growth and advancement of the adult industry, along with the technology. “The first time someone created a camera there was someone who said, ‘Wouldn’t it be good for someone to take off their clothes in front of this camera?’” said Michael Gartenberg, vice president at Interpret LLC, a media research company.

The days of keeping the computer out of the bedroom and in a public place are gone, especially with the onset of the “pocket PC” also known as the smart phone…Smart phones need smart users.

Alumni Of The CyberHood Watch CHWradio

“Unfortunately, both children and sexual predators are often ahead of parents when comes to technology,” says Donna Rice Hughes, president of Enough Is Enough, a child safety group.

Again, The CyberHood Watch cannot stress enough the importance of an informed parent to help empower his or her child in the digital age to make better-informed decisions.

Today we had Stanley Holditch, Internet Safety, SafeEyes.com live on CHW and we’re very impressed with the SafeEyes system and products, and we’ll be sharing with you in this blog post today, information that can not only can save your childs life… but can protect YOU and you family from becoming a VICTIM of cyber-criminals…

yes I said cyber “Criminals” every time you login or type a web keyword or visit a URL and/or stumble onto a website by accident that is a pornography site, or any other illegal website owned and operated by criminals… the LAW is being broken!! and they should be arrested on the spot!!! but, because the CYBERHOOD Criminals hide behind the laws that we originally created and designed to protect (you and your family) and the innocent including the inalienable rights of everyone, until the laws change, you have to be active in following your own CORE values to protect the ones you love, while online…

Take a look at this video.

…And these equally alarming statistics.

70% of kids between 8-18 have accidentally stumbled onto a pornographic website.
79% of unwanted pornography exposure occurs at home.
64% of teens say they do things online that they don’t want their parents to know about.

Make sure your family is protected from the unacceptable garbage that’s constantly looming on the Internet. The fact is, the content control programs that come with some computers don’t cut it. Safe Eyes from InternetSafety.com is the best parental control software of its kind, and for a limited time, they are letting people try it free. Go to http://www.internetsafety.com/free

Stanley shared with us his thoughts today, but more importantly his CyberHood Watch magic wand question was awesome and you need to hear it, and you need to be aware that when core values are challenged and/or attacked (step back evaluate why this happening, and what you need to do, and to understand it then to move forward) what a valuable lesson to use what you just learned to protect your and your family! Make sure to listen to the complete interview there are so many golden nuggets of wisdom and advice contained, and as I said especially at the hour mark Stanley responds to what we can do, to watch over our family!

In the new CyberHood 2010 to 2013

Parents are you aware that most 4th graders, 18 Out of 23 of them, have smart phones.

and that… The numbers are stupendous, the threats are incredible, and users are completely unaware they all have perfected the art of Apathy, Arrogance and Ignorance.
Those of you who joined us today for the CHW live radio show with Ken Shallcross from PC Pandora, were blessed to hear an amazing story of what today’s parents are facing with the new internet we call the (CyberHood)… read and listen below!

Ken made his 4th appearance on our show! After more than a year of development, Pandora Corp. has just released the newest version of their computer monitoring software, PC Pandora 6.0. In addition to the upgraded software, PC Pandora LIVE! is launched. A web-based feature, the LIVE! service will let you check the data recorded from your home computer from anywhere you can access the Internet – including your iPhone!

The start of 2010 also brought something totally new from the company. Pandora Corp. has released The Office Software (theOS), a network-based monitoring and productivity tool designed to help small businesses and department managers eliminate cyberslacking and protect corporate assets. Listen to the show to hear how exciting all this new technology is, and how it’s helping business owners as well as parents everywhere.

Social Networking… is such a integral part of modern life today… something as simple as getting kicked off an airplane can turn into a nation-wide conservation in matter of a few minutes, or an international debate in a few hours!!! case in point, in a matter of a few hours this story was global!

The SLC version

Dana, a father who used PC Pandora to find his daughter who had run away with an 18-year-old boy she met on the Internet.

PC Pandora… has graciously setup a special link for all parents who listen to “CHW” and all our blog followers, it’s a $10:00 off the normal sale price discount… Thanks to Ken and his team for helping our CyberHood Watch friends & family! Special CHW discount

What a great show, one of the best we have ever done!!

Thank you Ken and Dana for taking time out of your day to share with Dave and I, and especially for sharing with the CyberHood Watch audience this wonderful story, not every story can have a happy ending but I believe with the PC Pandora software a lot more of these types of stories could and will have a happy ending, and reunite families everywhere… that is our hope and prayer.

This is such a powerful story that others need to read it and use it to protect their own families and children… please share this with your loved ones

SHARE IT

You still don’t think it can happen??

or you!!

“Think It Won’t Happen To You”

Predators are real… and they do strike someone, someplace, somewhere, every single day, 24 hours a day… thousands of cases daily, around the world!

WE hope this message reaches those parents just like Dana… who are searching for solutions, that they’ll find PC Pandora… before it is to late!
