As a call specialist on the National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC) hotline going to work can be exciting yet demanding. Calls continuously come in from around the country with requests for information, referrals, and sometimes from victims currently in crisis. Below is a single hour in the life of a NHTRC Call Specialist.

2:01 p.m. My extension rings and I answer with our standard greeting: “National Human Trafficking Resource Center, how can I help you?” A young voice explains that she is a student, working on a paper about sex trafficking. I direct her to our website and highlight the multiple resources available.

2:05 p.m. After hanging up I log the call in Salesforce, our database that we use to record information from every call we receive to collect data and track trends. Read more

I was doing some research yesterday for our Thursday highlights posts called TIWHTY Thursday and I came across a very interesting post about credit card fraud: you-think-it-wont-happen-to-you read their story!!

One of the first things I do on my computer is to access our bank account and review our statement. I guess it’s lucky that I do this every morning because today I immediately saw three suspicious transactions that had occurred around 6:30 a.m this morning. A long time online friend of mine Dr. Neill Neill has published an article this week, he shares insight that it’s more about having parents than parenting.

The chances are you both are a parent and have parents. But in the flow of life nothing is for sure.

Right now between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, I just wanted to express my appreciation for all parents, young and old.

A Tribute to Parents by, Dr. Neill

I have lived a charmed life. I was born to parents who had nothing materially, but who loved me deeply and were proud of me. There is nothing like parental love. I seemed to know that from my earliest memories around aged one. Yes, I do indeed remember things back to just after my first birthday. My parents started me off on a charmed and happy life, and I thank them for it.

This is the time of year where we think about parents because Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day are in the early summer. I don’t do anything special on these days, but I do wonder sometimes just how much those whose….
