Mathew Ingram’s title reads. “Fact: Most People Have Never Heard of Location-Based Apps”. It is interesting to note that Foursquare, a location-based app, landed a substantial round of venture capital financing recently. More interesting though is the fact that almost 95% of online users in the U.S. are not familiar with location-based applications on mobile devices.

In addition, “Facebook is also working on location features, which may include a partnership with Foursquare and other services”. Do you think this might be something to become mindful about?

Are you tired or at least concerned about your constant exposure and knowing your every breath, and your personal information strewed throughout unknown databases consistently mined for vulnerabilities?

Recently, david c ballard’s title read, “Viewers Know Where You Live…Disabling GeoTags On Your Smart Phones & Cameras”. Ninety-five percent (95%) may not know about location-based technologies, but nonetheless your whereabouts are known and with geotags, the location of your pictures and video pinpoint the location of where your pictures and/or videos were taken. Do you really want someone to know where your children live and where to find that great HD flat screen TV seen in the background?

Disable your GeoTags.

Seriously, Pay Attention To This - It Involves The Future Of Our Children - And The Future Of Our Country...Considering Our Children Are Our Future!

I came across this video doing research, and after watching the video it became clear how much technology is changing the dynamics of our children. Not necessarily is the change bad or good but, we need to be mindful that it is a dramatic change in the development of our youth and a topic worthy of more communication and awareness.

In this video Phillip Zimbardo, a psychologist and professor at Stanford University discusses the perspective of time: “past oriented” and “future oriented”, and then equates it to the role of education.

If our children are our future, it behooves us to understand what and how the Digital Age is changing our youths perspective of learning. Considering the fact that every nine seconds a child drops out of school should be an indicator there needs to be an understanding as to why. According to Phillip our childrens’ brains are literally being rewired with all the stimulus from the technologies our children are exposed to on a daily basis.

The CyberHood Watch partners have discussed with several guests the idea of kids learning how to unplug from the digital environment, which is not likely to happen. That is why this video gives hope to the idea of identifying what may need to changed to accommodate the future of our children functioning in today’s digital world.

Something that caught my attention, among the many interesting points brought out in this video, which is the disappearance of the family gathering around the dinner table every evening. I have always personally felt that the disappearance of the family dinner times was a significant turning point in many families and their relationships with their children. I would venture to guess that those who still have dinner together also have better adjusted children when it comes to digital behaviors…Just my opinion.

What are your thoughts after watching the video?

What does it mean to be RESPONSIBLE??

Having a capacity for moral decisions and therefore accountable, and is capable of rational thought or action, within one’s power & control. Take Responsibility and… STOP the MADDness!

Being A Responsible CyberCitizen – Is Your Right & Responsibility

The Internet is a Big Deal, and we all have certain rights and duties if we chose to participate as members of the Internet. It is that simple, if you are a member of the Internet, then you are responsible for your children, and your family’s safety online and offline, which begins in understanding what and who you are up against. Consumers can no longer blindly assume they are protected because a commercial tells them they are safe – sorry, that is misleading and simply is not the case.

After many years of research and many notable guests on just what is important to keep our children and their family’s safe on and offline. The CyberHood Watch partners, Dave & Bill, have recognized a merging trend in the overall belief of what is necessary to keep families safe on and offline. Families should be aware that although technology and security software plays a vital role in the safety of your family’s online activities, it should be remembered it is only one part of the equation.

I wish we could claim some Nobel breakthrough, and be the first to announce a universal solution to the world on CHWradio, but the fact is – the other key element in addition to enterprise grade technologies, is simply good old fashion parenting, and teaching children the lost art of civility. Yes, the technology is new, and a bit out of control, which makes it more difficult, but not only can you do it, you have to do it – you are the parent.

Listen to any of our guests and you will realize, Dave & Bill have assembled an outstanding group of notable authorities worldwide.
Being Responsible Shows Character by Ron Kurtus (18 April 2001)

HOW TO BE A RESPONSIBLE PERSON (AND FEEL GREAT!)

When you agree to do something, do it. If you let people down, they’ll stop believing you. When you follow through on your commitments, people take you seriously.

Answer for your own actions. Don’t make excuses or blame others for what you do. When you take responsibility for your actions you are saying “I am the one who’s in charge of my life.”

Take care of your own matters. Don’t rely on adults to remind you when you’re supposed to be somewhere or what you’re supposed to bring. You take the responsibility.

What Does it Mean to Be Responsible?

Family Responsibility

As an individual living alone, there is only you to look out for and make sure your needs are satisfied. With a family, however, the requirement to be responsible increases dramatically. A child requires lots and lots of assistance, from getting nutritious food to going to school to learning how to be accountable for his actions. A responsible parent teaches her child how to behave and also makes sure basic needs of her children are met, even before her own at times. An irresponsible parent may leave a child home alone for long stretches of time after school or not assist them with healthy meals or homework.

If you are childless, your family responsibility can still lie with assisting a sibling or parent in need or even caring for a pet.

Here is Digital Dave’s description: Asked and Answered

This question you’ll hear Digital Dave asking everyone is and now has become a part of our branding for The CyberHood Watch is, “What comes to mind when you hear the phrase “Responsible CyberCitizen?” The CyberHood Watch, as well as Bill and I, believe that “Responsible CyberCitizens” will be a corner stone in the wall of defense for the safety of our children and their families and their Internet’s safety.

So, Digital Dave asked Deputy Chief, Kirk Torgensen of Utah and he sees the Internet like most of us, a great tool with almost endless possibilities. Unfortunately, for Kirk, he’s directly involved with the nefarious underworld and the scourge inflicted on the Internet. Like CHWradio.com, “…one of the goals in the Attorney General’s Office is to really get out and talk to people about how not to fall prey to different things on the Internet”. Another trait of a responsible cybercitizen is communication with your children, another common thread echoed by previous guests. Awareness is another common thread portrayed by responsible cybercitizens and needed to empower you and your children’s online and offline safety.

Parents need to be responsible cybercitizens and educate themselves and learn what not to allow your children to do on the Internet and not setting themselves up as a target for unwanted activity. Parents are busy and kids are left alone and when a member of your family or your child becomes a victim… suddenly you have time?

A comment we hear all the time is “Communication & Awareness”. Parents need to establish an ongoing dialog with your children and be sure to keep the line of communication open. The #1 and #2 reasons your kids will avoid telling you about someone or something bothering them on the Internet is because they fear losing his or her computer privileges or their parent “Freaking-Out”.

Spend time alongside your children, and let them know they can trust coming to you with out “Freaking-Out”. It is statistically proven that parents that talk to his or her child a lot about digital safety are less likely to meet in person someone they have met on the Internet.

Parents need to supervise the use of all his or her child’s digital-enabled devices. It use to be and still is good advice to place the PC in a public place in the home. However, mobile digital devices are becoming the norm and pack as much and soon more power than the desktop computer. Be sure to monitor all points of Internet access including portable music devices, gaming device, and PDA.
