UTAH WELCOMES INTERNET SAFETY 101®
January was an exciting time of growth and expansion for Enough Is Enough® (EIE) with the successful statewide launch of our Internet Safety 101® Program. EIE joined the Utah Council for Crime Prevention (UCCP), our lead state partner, at their 14th annual Power of Prevention Conference to hold three separate Internet Safety 101® Trainings and Workshops where we trained over 100 parents and community leaders with the 101 Program. In addition to our trainings we also met with corporate leaders to support our Utah efforts.

EIE President and CEO Donna Rice Hughes and EIE Spokesperson and former OJJDP Administrator Bob Flores, ESQ conducted two train-the-trainer workshops. They led a full day Internet Safety 101® Advanced Ambassador Training. There was also a half-day Internet Safety 101® Basic Facilitator Training. 101 Facilitators may take the Program into their communities to teach and share with others. The launch wrapped up Saturday with an Internet Safety 101® Faith-based Workshop for church leaders led by Donna. Among those trained during the Utah launch were leaders from Utah PTA, Women for Decency, Netsafe Utah, D.A.R.E, the Salvation Army, the LDS Church, Fight the New Drug, Cyberhood Watch, and Bradley PR Agency as well as law enforcement. We also had leaders from other states join us for the Ambassador training. We are very proud of our first graduating class of certified Ambassadors and Facilitators committed to sharing the Internet Safety 101® Program statewide in Utah.

The first graduating class of Internet Safety 101 Ambassadors
“I just completed the Ambassador level training for Internet Safety 101 at the Utah Council on Crime Prevention. What a great course, the training and tools Enough is Enough has put together. I am a Police Officer for the last 15 years. I have been assigned as a Juvenile Services Officer for the last 4 years. This issue has come up many times and I have wanted something to help parents understand the dangers and what they could do to protect their children. This program is it. I’m taking this back to San Diego to spread it as far as I can. Thank you Donna for putting this together.”
Jordan Wells
Police Officer and Internet Safety 101® Ambassador

The CyberHood Watch wraps up another great year!!!
July 2011
Dave and Bill were asked today to announce July 26th, 2011 before anyone else on the web about the Venafi special report, release date on the 28th very cool for our CHWR audience… and it is a real honor for us, so this is something we don’t take lightly!
Bob West, Echelon One & Jeff Hudson, CEO of Venafi were on the CHWR show, listen to the interview above:
Dave & Bill are asked by Rosemary Campbell a reporter for The Desert News, to be quoted July 20th, 2011 as Salt Lake City, UT area authorities!
I’m a reporter with the Deseret News, and I’m writing a story about Internet monitoring software and how it helps parents keep track of their children’s Internet activity, while also increasing child online safety. I just spoke with Ken Shallcross who said you would be good to talk to about this, especially since you’re based in Utah. Would you have time to talk to me today or tomorrow?
Do either of you know of a family in Utah who has young children who are on Facebook and the Internet with their parents permission and the parents either monitor the computer or have set rules and boundaries for their children to follow?
I would love to speak with a family that has experience with young kids using the Internet and ask them how they decided what would be the best way to go about keeping their children safe online.
CHW Partners Response: Parent monitoring helps reduce child online danger!
David Ballard, president of The Cyberhood Watch, an online digital community promoting Internet safety in Utah, said that even if kids aren’t doing anything wrong online, there are others who use the Internet nefariously, and if parents don’t spy on their kids, there is a good chance someone else with ulterior motives will spy and not worry about it.
He agrees that innocence is one of the biggest dangers to young kids, but parents can help curb that danger.
“They don’t have the level of maturity that adults have. Many kids are starving for attention, to be socially active out there,” he said. “I sometimes forget that there are so many people who aren’t aware of what’s going on. Parents have abdicated their rights with technology.”
The Cyberhood Watch’s Internet-based live radio show is how Ballard and others at the company, Bill Wardell, try to spread awareness to parents and kids about the dangers of cyberbullying, predators and the need for educating kids before setting them loose in the online world. Read more
Harassment, no matter how much or how little, can result in many problems emotionally, mentally and physically, even driving some to suicide, tragedies the U.S. has witnessed all too often in the past few years. But dangers like this are what motivated Warner, Shallcross, Ballard and their predecessors to start promoting child online safety.

June 2011
CHW Partner – Bill Wardell was quoted June 16, 2011, for an article by our good CHWR friend: Krystle Nicole Russin she is freelance writer. Krystle, asks; “Do you have an opinion on this topic? Tennessee legislators have passed an extraordinary law that makes it a crime to “transmit or display an image” online” and Bill’s quote…
I believe that all images that fall into this category should carry a warning or you should have to give your permission to view it only if you are 18 years or older… I feel all images that would be considered offensive should carry this type of warning, only to protect minors (the innocent) from viewing it, by accident!
If people do not adhere to these simple rules, they should have to pay some type of fine or penalty. Says; Bill Wardell from CHW Blog – http://TheCyberHoodWatch.com
CHW Partner – Bill Wardell was quoted June 16, 2011, for an article by our good CHWR friend: Krystle Nicole Russin she is freelance writer. Krystle, asks; “Do you have an opinion on this topic? FCC mandate brings financial hit to counties, towns” Bucks County is in the process of spending tens of millions of dollars to comply with a federal mandate to upgrade its emergency communications.” and Bill’s quote…
In long-term contracts like this one, Motorola will be the big winner in making these upgrades and with the FCC mandating these types of upgrades without creating a plan (Federal Monies & Incentives) for small towns across America to implement with their townships and city-wide tax increases, to offset some of the costs.
Then once again we have seen big business in bed with political leaders and special interest groups, lining their pockets and making a very “private few” a lot of money over the next few years, or until the next time they decide to upgrade again! Says; Bill Wardell from CHW Blog – http://TheCyberHoodWatch.com
CHW Partner – Bill Wardell was interviewed, by our good CHWR friends @ Yourshpere and staff writer LilyAnn, June 3, 2011 she was published here: Yourshpere Interview with Bill Wardell

CHW Partner – Bill Wardell was once again quoted, for an article by our good CHWR friend: Krystle Nicole Russin she is freelance writer. Krystle, asks; “Do you have an opinion on this topic? TechFreedom Files Amicus Brief in Key Case on Free Speech & Privacy” and Bill’s quote…
“IMHO personal private data should never be used for marketing or creating marketing campaigns with or without personal permission! I also believe that using a Terms Of Service and/or blanket statement to cover companies liability is outrageous. They do this so that they cannot be held accountable or prosecuted if the personal data is misused! Says; Bill Wardell of http://TheCyberHoodWatch.com“

“Free is good, but sometimes when technology moves forward too quickly, it is not always the right thing to do,” said Bill Wardell, host of the Web program CyberHood Watch Radio. “Vendors, suppliers, and providers of these types of services always look for more cost-effective, cheaper ways to build things, and [they usually] end up sacrificing quality and, most importantly, security.”
