Set aside time to watch the premier, “Who Is Simon Miller”, Saturday, August 6, 8/7c on NBC, 2011. Read on to find out why, Monica McGrew , (mother of two), with Moms4FamilyTV, Walmart, and P & G (Proctor & Gamble) believes why a “Universal Truth Theme” is vitally important for your children and your family…Back to “Family Movie Night”. Now, not only can make a difference in what your children are exposed to on TV, but now you have an opportunity to establish an open and continuous dialogue with your child that lasts a lifetime.
It is important to recognize the urgency of not only the information overload placed upon our children, but also the level and extent of criminally inappropriate materials finding its way into the digital lives of children and skewing his or her child development.
All one has to do is compare earlier TV shows that brought families together for an evening of wholesome entertainment with current TV movies.
Cause and effect…Expose children to violence and highly inappropriate graphic materials; it will influence a child’s behavior. Looking back on TV programming, one begins to see the gradual growth of thoughtless violence and nudity that has increased to the point of being “common” and now it is expected and accepted without questioning its value.
Earlier this week, David Sabine, Ph.D., a practicing clinical psychologist shared with us a case involving several young boys (Time Stamp 00:14:48), ages 10 – 11 – 11, over a four day period repeatedly raped a six year old girl, one of the boy’s younger sister. David Sabine points out that what they did was acted out based on what they learned through external influences like digital media on the Internet. Sadly, the boys were very ignorant of what they were doing and had no idea of the consequences of their actions for neither themselves nor the victim. However, they had seen enough and been exposed enough to act on it in a violent way.
The later example and yes it does represent the other end of the scale, but nonetheless, should remind parents what your children are exposed to does influence your child’s innocence and mental development. Moms4FamilyTV understand this and are strong advocates for bringing back quality family programs that the entire family can watch together that incorporates a “universal truth theme”.
Moms4FamilyTV can be trusted to provide and recommend great family movies that not only entertain, but also provide teaching moments with your family, a continuation of the movie…What do you think about that?
“Communication and Awareness” is one of the cornerstones of the CyberHood Watch® core principals. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children created a program called “Take 25” to encourage parents to set aside twenty-five minutes of quality time to talk with his or her child each day…Talk to one another.
Establishing an open and continuous line of communication with your child in today’s digital age is paramount for living a safe and secure digital life. Moms4FamilyTV understand this important concept of communication and awareness and are promoting both family TV and a discussion format that allows parents to begin a dialogue with the family about the movie they just watched together.
When it is all said and done, Moms4FamilyTV along with the support of Walmart and P&G (Proctor & Gamble) have stepped forward to provide all our families an opportunity to make a difference in what his or her child is exposed to with today’s TV programming. What are you doing to make a difference? If you believe what children, watch makes a difference in his or her development and how they behave, then take the time to watch a “Family Movie Night” on TV with your child and look for the teaching moments to begin your dialogue.
Start watching tonight – Saturday, August 6, 2011, the sixth in a series of Walmart and P & G initiatives for “Family Movie Night”, with “Who Is Simon Miller”.
You make a difference simply by watching…The more who watch, the more family movies produced, the closer our families become.
