Dear Friends,

With dramatic increases in call volume into the national human trafficking hotline, we need your help to ensure we can continue to maintain our capacity to respond. Your concern for the inhumanity of modern-day slavery has contributed to our many successes during the last two years, and we ask that you give again this holiday season!

December 7 marks the second anniversary of the implementation of the National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC) hotline operated by Polaris Project.  During the last year the volume of calls into the 24-hour hotline has continued to rise with increasing numbers of serious tips about human trafficking situations occurring throughout the US. During the first month of service, in December 2007, the hotline received 237 calls.  Now, during the Fall of 2009, this central hotline has received more than 800 calls per month, totaling more than 13,000 calls overall. The number of repeat callers as well as community members has increased due the high-quality responses and referrals from hotline staff. Since December 7, 2007 there have been 3,000 potential victims of human trafficking referenced in calls into the hotline. We have seen several calls through to completion – from an initial tip to prosecution.

Your support has made these milestones possible and the consistent growth in call volume demonstrates the urgent need for the NHTRC hotline’s services. We hope and expect that the number of calls will continue to rise as awareness of the issue of human trafficking spreads.
