Protect all things personal. How many times have you been asked for your Social Security Number or maybe your driver’s license number? Mike Prusinski VP of LifeLock’s Corporate Communications suggests you ask, “Why do you want it? How is it stored…Encrypted? And what are you going to do if it is stolen?”

LifeLock's VP of Corporate Communications, Mike Prusinski Meets Dave & Bill on CHWradio

When the CyberHood Watch partners, Dave & Bill, began the interview with Mike he was about to participate in the fundraising event for the non-profit charitable foundation, “Folds of Honor”. Folds of Honor Foundation provide post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving our great nation.

LifeLock and Folds of Honor have come together to raise awareness of Identity Theft among the military families. LifeLock will donate Fifty-Dollars for every new sign-up at the Patriot Golf Day event in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Understanding the problem of Identity Theft is your greatest source of protection. LifeLock strives to empower individuals with the education to recognize the dangers of ID Theft and to know the solutions available for his or her protection.

Identity Theft is a crime of frustration…

When dealing with Identity Theft you are guilty until proven innocence…

I never thought this would happen to me…

Mike points out that we are often asked for our personal information when it is not necessary. When information is gathered, specifically our Social Security Numbers, there are not enough stop gates in place to identify the authenticity of the user or prevention of its misuse by criminals. The checks and balances for the prevention or misuse of a SSN are not is place.

Ultimately, the consumer is in charge of their personal information and its protection, and LifeLock continues to help individuals to arm themselves with education.

If “dumpster-diving” has been identified as the number one source for Identity theft, why do you never hear about someone arrested for “dumpster-diving”? Contrary to some beliefs, maybe technology is a bigger part of the problem than previously thought. However, Mike pointed out that a great deal of ID Theft occurs by someone you know personally. It is a good practice to store any identifying information out of sight from traffic within your home.
